This article aims to understand how automated conversational agents (chatbots) are being made available by the Executive Branch in Brazil, assessing their basic level of informational accuracy. A total of 212 departments from 53 governments—including state administrations, the Federal District, and Brazilian capitals—were examined, mapping 26 agencies with chatbots. Data were collected through targeted documentary research, conversational tests, and consultations with managers. Only 24% of the conversational tests produced adequate responses. Lack of resources, technological expertise, and data organization are among the main challenges reported by managers.
